The problem could be the thermostat. Most of the time, poor readings or improper location can cause this. Another cause could be a dirty air filter. Make sure to change your filter every three months and call a professional if the filter is dirty or has lost its efficiency. Another common cause of short cycling is a malfunctioning thermostat. The thermostat regulates the temperature in your entire home. If the thermostat is broken or has low batteries, it can short cycle your AC frequently. As a result, the AC will turn on and off intermittently.
